NASSAU. BAHAMAS — The Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) proudly announces that its Executive Director, Dr. Renae Ferguson-Bufford, has been appointed Vice Chair of the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) Policy Development Committee on Developing Country Matters (DEVCO) for the 2025-2026 term.

Dr. Ferguson-Bufford’s appointment was confirmed during the 44th Chair’s Advisory Group (CAG) meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. This prestigious role positions The Bahamas at the forefront of global standardization efforts, strengthening the nation’s leadership in shaping policies that drive economic growth, trade facilitation, and consumer protection in developing countries.

DEVCO plays a critical role in assisting developing nations by identifying their standardization needs, recommending technical assistance, and shaping ISO’s strategic policies. As Vice Chair, Dr. Ferguson-Bufford will work closely with global leaders to ensure that international standards remain integral to sustainable development and economic progress.

Dr. Ferguson-Bufford has been an active member of the Chair’s Advisory Group since 2023 and was previously elected as the first Caribbean female to serve on the ISO Board of Directors. Her leadership in the standardization field, coupled with her expertise in World Trade Organization (WTO) matters, has been widely recognized by her colleagues, positioning her as an outstanding candidate for this esteemed position.

On January 31, 2025, the Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) hosted its annual Staff Retreat under the theme “Engage and Elevate: A Synergy Day and Staff Retreat.” Designed to strengthen professional accountability, teamwork, and self-leadership, the retreat provided an interactive and enriching experience for staff members.

Setting the Tone: A Day of Growth and Collaboration

The retreat kicked off with warm welcomes, icebreaker activities, and introductions, fostering an inclusive and engaging atmosphere. Led by Keshelle and Glenn Davis of The Training Authority, the agenda was centered on three key themes:

Throughout the day, staff participated in engaging discussions and group activities, gaining practical insights into business etiquette, ethics, and decision-making. A key highlight was the teamwork and collaboration session, which encouraged employees to recognize and embody the qualities of an effective team player.
