BBSQ Metrology Team Completes Over 100 Instrument Verifications During Successful Abaco Exercise

The Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) is pleased to announce the successful completion of a weeklong verification initiative conducted by its Metrology team in Abaco. During this outreach effort, the team completed over 100 verifications of weighing and measuring instruments used in commercial settings throughout the island.

This mission is in direct alignment with the Weights and Measures Act (2006), which mandates the regulation and verification of all weighing and measuring devices used in trade and commerce within The Bahamas. By ensuring the accuracy and reliability of these instruments, BBSQ upholds fair trade practices and strengthens consumer protection across the nation.

The Abaco visit marked a critical step in expanding BBSQ’s metrological presence, especially within communities that had not yet been fully introduced to the range of services and legal responsibilities of the Metrology Department.

Throughout the exercise, the team conducted both scale and fuel dispenser verifications, while also engaging with business owners, managers, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the value of metrology in everyday commerce.

BBSQ extends its sincere appreciation to the Abaco community for their cooperation and warm reception. We look forward to continued collaboration with stakeholders throughout the Family Islands as we work toward our mission of promoting quality, accuracy, and trust in all measurement systems.
