BBSQ Advances Internal Quality with ISO 9001 Training Strengthening the Quality Infrastructure of The Bahamas from Within

Last week, members of the Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) team participated in a week-long, in-person auditing training session as part of the Bureau’s ongoing journey toward certification to ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems – Requirements.

This internationally recognized standard outlines the requirements for a strong, well-managed quality system. As BBSQ continues to build and strengthen the national quality infrastructure, it also recognizes the importance of leading by example. By working toward ISO 9001:2015 certification, the Bureau is making a firm commitment to quality, consistency, and accountability within its own operations.

The training was designed to equip BBSQ staff with the tools and understanding required to conduct internal audits in accordance with ISO 9001. These internal audits form a critical part of any effective quality management system, helping to identify gaps, monitor performance, and drive ongoing improvement across departments.

Since beginning this process, BBSQ has benefited from the steady guidance of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), whose team has been instrumental in providing technical support, insight, and mentorship along the way. The audit training was facilitated by Ms. Breana Chase-Wilson, Technical Officer II at GNBS, who brought both professionalism and practical experience to the sessions. Her hands-on approach and clear communication helped ensure that BBSQ participants were fully prepared to carry out internal audits with confidence and competence.

BBSQ views ISO 9001:2015 not only as a benchmark to meet, but a framework to sustain. Reaching this goal represents a key milestone in enhancing internal processes and embedding quality across the Bureau. It will support improvements in service delivery, operational efficiency, and stakeholder confidence. With continued focus, collaboration, and training, BBSQ looks forward to completing the process and setting a strong example for quality across The Bahamas.

BBSQ extends its sincere thanks to the Guyana National Bureau of Standards for their continued support and partnership throughout this journey. Their expert guidance has played a vital role in helping us move confidently toward certification.
