BBSQ Prepares for Upcoming Launch of Mobile Mass Metrology Laboratory with New Equipment and Training

BBSQ prepares for the upcoming launch of their state-of-the-art mobile metrology laboratory by installing new metrology equipment with the help of Dr. Bustaffa, a consultant from Bioethic Alliance Srl.

The Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) is making strides toward enhancing its industrial metrology services with ongoing developments for its mobile metrology laboratory. As part of this preparation, Dr. Alessandro Bustaffa, a consultant from Bioethic Alliance Srl, visited BBSQ to oversee the installation and testing of advanced equipment for the laboratory.

Dr. Bustaffa also conducted specialized training sessions for BBSQ’s Senior Metrologist and Head of Department, Brendon Johnson. These sessions focused on the safe handling and effective use of the newly installed equipment and accompanying software, setting the foundation for future operations.

This initiative is part of the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Single Market and Economy (CSME) Standby Facility for Capacity Building Project. The project seeks to enhance the region’s capacity for standards and quality assurance, fostering economic growth and supporting trade development.

While the laboratory is not yet fully operational, these advancements represent a significant milestone in BBSQ’s mission to provide accessible calibration services across The Bahamas. Once complete, the mobile laboratory will empower industries to adopt best practices, enhancing The Bahamas’ competitive position in global markets.
