Inspector III/Legal Metrology

Develops and maintains standards of measurement, as well as ensures the accuracy and reliability of measurements.

Responsibilities:

Conduct metrology activities to include calibrations, verifications, testing of equipment, and training with the Metrology Department.
Develop the technical capacity of the BBSQ in Metrology.
Adhere to the quality system of the Metrology Department.
Maintain all records of the assigned metrology unit.
Serve The Commonwealth of The Bahamas as a technical resource person.
Participate in the development of local, regional and international standards.
Maintain the operation, quality and traceability of national metrology standards.
Performing related duties as assigned by the Director or the Head of the Metrology Department.
Need to lift large heavy weights up to 50 kg ~ 110.2lb.
Ability to work for long hours.
Ability to work outdoors for long hours.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree preferably in the natural or physical sciences from an accredited institution OR the equivalence in advanced level courses in mathematics and science (such as engineering, physics, applied/physical sciences) at a post level tertiary institute.
Experience working in a laboratory environment is a plus.
Computer literacy is required, with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Strong verbal and written English is required.
Knowledge of ISO 17025 and related standards would be an asset.
Knowledge of Metrology, Quality Assurance, Standardization, Conformity Assessment, Certification and Accreditation would be an asset.
