Standards Officer III

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform Standards Development and Promulgation activities including facilitating Technical Committees and editing draft standards.
  • Research information for and advises the technical committees on solutions to problems related to the functioning of the committees.
  •   Prepare reports on the activities carried out to meet the objectives of the Department.
  •   Develop the technical capacity of the Bahamas Bureau of Standards in Standards Development.
  •   Participate in the development of the quality management system of the Standards Development Department.
  •   Implement and adhere to the quality management system of the Standards Development Department.
  •   Meet regularly with the Head of Standards Development or Director to monitor objectives and make operational adjustments as necessary.
  •   Maintain all records of the Standards Development Department.
  •   Serve the nation of The Bahamas as a technical resource person.
  •   Participate in and provide support for the development of local, regional and international standards.
  •   Prepare and deliver presentations at training seminars and workshops both internally and externally.
  •   Perform related duties as assigned by the Director or Department Head.

Physical Demands

Travelling throughout The Bahamas to conduct audits, research, and assessments may be required.

Travelling overseas to attend meetings, workshops and conferences.

Sometimes extended working hours may be required.

Minimum Education and Experience

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in natural sciences or an equivalent science/technical related field of study from an accredited institution.
  • At least two (2) years skills experience in a related field of science OR two (2) years skills experience conducting relevant technical research and providing solutions to problems is required.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of standards development processes/procedures is an asset.
  • Training in Quality Management Systems (HACCP, ISO 9000, 14001, etc.) is preferred.
  • Computer literacy is required, with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office or office software packages.
  • Strong verbal and written English are required.
  • Knowledge of Metrology, Quality Assurance, Standardization, Conformity Assessment, Certification and Accreditation would be an asset.
